Iyengar Yoga is a type of hatha yoga (which means we use the body to help develop the mind). B.K.S. Iyengar was one of the foremost teachers of yoga in the world and practiced and taught for over 70 years before his death in 2014. Iyengar Yoga can be practiced by students of all ages, abilities, sizes and levels because the poses are taught in an orderly way. We use props to make the poses more accessible or to work on a specific action in the pose, and we emphasize alignment, which helps keep students healthy. We also practice pranayama (rhythmic control of the breath). Iyengar teachers go through a rigorous certification process and are always seeking out educational opportunities.
We suggest that you bring your own sticky mat (we have plenty if you forget) and your own blanket or towel to cover the soft props you will borrow. We supply all the necessary props but you are welcome to bring your own if you if you would rather. Please wear clothes that are comfortable and moveable and allow for the teacher to see what your body is doing. We recommend not attending class with a full stomach.
To participate in a livestream class let your teacher know or sign up as you usually do. Find some space in your house where you will have some room, a wall and your props available. If you need a refresher on Zoom please CLICK HERE
That is up to you. You are always welcome to turn off your video if that works better for you, but we do like to see you so that we can give you feedback on your practice. For the recorded classes you will not be on the recording unless you unmute to ask a question.
It is a beautiful and airy studio with 20 rope wall stations, mountain views and lots of windows. We have radiant heat flooring, climate control and have recently added air purifiers. The studio provides ample room for students to spread out and so drop ins are always welcome. Classes at The Yoga Connection are on the smaller side allowing for individual attention.
It is appropriate to come to class if you are menstruating and with certain chronic health conditions and injuries. The great thing about this method is that we have loads of ways to adapt the poses to make them work. Contact your teacher or talk to them before class, and we will help you adapt the class to your needs that day. Of course, sometimes rest is the most appropriate thing to do and we can help you decide that to. Please enjoy a Zoom class or you own practice at home if you are feeling unwell.
We do not want it to be, so please contact Kristin here and we can try to work something out.
Kristin is the only yoga teacher for me! Her classes are amazing. With simple, clear words, she guides me to adjust my body in such a way that a simple movement takes on new dimensions. Each class is different from the last one, and each movement within a class builds on an idea—as subtle as where we are weighting our heels—that informs each movement. Beyond her technical skill, Kristin is warm and attentive, playful and encouraging. These classes are a bright spot in my week.
